Local government entities will receive grant money for programs that are considered "climate Smart".
Three North Country municipalities will receive a share of nearly $23 million in Climate Smart Communities Grant awards according to the DEC. The Town of Plattsburgh, Village of Saranac Lake and Town of Jay will receive a total of just over $200,000 in grant money. Plattsburgh will get $100,000 for a comprehensive plan regarding biking and walking in the town. Village of Saranac Lake will be awarded $72,000 – for plans to be created tthat bolster climate preparedness, social cohesion, and economic longevity. The Town of Jay secured a $30,000 grant to complete a biking and walking policy. The Climate Smart Communities Grant Program is part of the larger, interagency CSC Program that was established in 2009.
