The Supreme Court will allow Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook to stay in office while her case proceeds. Justices will hear arguments in January, with a decision expected in June. President Trump had asked the court to let him immediately remove Cook, but under current law, presidents can dismiss governors only “for cause.” Trump claims Cook committed mortgage fraud, but bank records appear to dispute the claim. Senate Republicans say they need 5 additional Democratic votes to pass a short-term funding bill and reopen the government. Three senators—John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, and Angus King of Maine—have already backed the measure. A civilian employee of the Department Of The Navy has been charged with making a false active shooter report that forced a lockdown at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. Malika Brittingham texted someone around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, claiming she heard several gunshots and was hiding with colleagues. She later admitted fabricating the story, explaining she wanted to “trauma bond” with coworkers. (Story URL)


Meta announced Wednesday that conversations with its AI assistant will soon influence ads and content shown on Facebook and Instagram. Users will begin receiving notifications about the change on October 7th, with the system update taking effect December 16th. The company said both voice and text interactions with its AI will be used to refine recommendations. Opting out of the new system is not possible. (Story URL)


A 17-year-old boy was killed Saturday in rural Iowa after being mistaken for a squirrel by another hunter. Officials reported that Carson Ryan was hunting near Iowa City when a member of his group fired, striking him in the back of the head around 3 p.m. He was taken to University Of Iowa Health Care Medical Center, where he later died. A GoFundMe campaign for Ryan’s family has raised over $50,000. (Story URL)
