President Trump used his speech at the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday to sharply criticize immigration policies and renewable energy efforts in Europe. He called climate change the “greatest con job ever” and warned that open borders and “suicidal energy ideas” could bring down Western nations. He said Europe is “in serious trouble” and told delegates, “your countries are going to hell.” (Story URL)

A Florida jury has convicted Ryan Routh of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump. Routh, who represented himself, was found guilty on all five counts, including attempted assassination of a major candidate and assaulting a federal officer. He was arrested in September 2024 at Trump’s golf course. Prosecutors said he spent weeks plotting and even sought an anti-aircraft weapon. He faces life in prison. (Story URL)

Many Americans will pay more to heat their homes this winter, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association. The group projects average household energy bills will climb 7.6% to $976. Natural gas users may see an 8.4% increase, while electricity customers could face a 10.2% jump. A federal judge has directed the Trump administration to restore $500 million in federal grants to UCLA. U.S. District Judge Rita Lin ruled the government likely violated the Administrative Procedure Act by suspending grants without proper explanation. The freeze, announced in August, affected $584 million in grants tied to civil rights allegations involving antisemitism and affirmative action. (Story URL)

Major League Baseball will introduce the Automated Ball/Strike System in 2026. Under the new system, umpires will continue calling pitches, but teams may challenge two calls per game, with extra challenges allowed in extra innings. Pitchers, catchers, or batters must signal a challenge by tapping their helmet or cap. Successful challenges are retained, and reviews will be displayed on stadium videoboards. (Story URL)
