Watch out for Deer

Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 8:02 AM

Drivers are being warned that risk of hitting a deer Increases in the fall when Animals are most active.

Last year, there were over 32,000 crashes statewide involving deer according to the University at Albany’s Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research. Their data shows the number of crashes spike in October, November and December.  That’s because deer activity increases during the breeding season in the fall.  Deer are commonly encountered by drivers at dawn and dusk during periods of reduced visibility, which is another contributing factor in collisions.
