Plattsburgh City Council Reviews Parks Renewal Progress and Future Plans

$2.6 million allocated for upgrades, and plans for future enhancements are underway.

The Plattsburgh Common Council received an update on the ongoing City Parks Renewal project, with Community Development Director Courtney Meisenheimer outlining completed work and costs. The $2.6 million project, which began with a 2021 park assessment, has led to improvements at five public parks, including new playgrounds, court resurfacing, and ongoing bathroom renovations. To date, $119,300 has been spent on the master plan, and $291,500 on design work, making the projects eligible for grant funding. Notable expenses include $449,978 for playground equipment at Fox Hill and $607,325 for community space at Melissa Penfield, with the latter expected to be completed by May 12. The remaining budget for the Parks Renewal fund is $710,499.29, and future projects, such as a new playset at South Acres Park, are being considered. Meisenheimer also mentioned a new funding opportunity from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, which could further support park improvements. The City Council will continue reviewing Phase 2 plans at upcoming meetings.
