Three state agencies are responsible for a significant amount of overtime paid the Comptroller reports.
Last year the overtime paid to state workers cost taxpayers $1.6 billion according to an annual report issued by the State Comptroller’s office. The report shows Three agencies accounted for more than two-thirds of the state’s overtime cost. They are Corrections, the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Mental Health. Those agencies make up only about 22% of the workforce but accounted for 70% of the overtime earnings logged by all state agencies in 2025.
