A license is needed in NY to become as a Nuisance Control Operator and DEC offers a free online test.

People interested in becoming a licensed Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator can now take the DEC examination online and free of charge. A licensed practitioner is authorized to take, trap, transport, and release wildlife whenever an animal becomes a nuisance, destroys property, or threatens public safety. Upon successful completion of the 2-hour exam, applicants will receive information on applying for the license. For information and the test schedule contact the DEC Special Licenses Unit.
