NYS benefited from the recent big Mega Millions win through money gained from increased ticket sales.
Even though the massive $980 million jackpot was won in Georgia, ticket sales leading up to the November 14th drawing generated more than $54 million combined for New York’s public schools and Lottery retailers. In New York State, Mega Millions ticket sales totaled nearly $133 million during the run. Commission paid to retailers on those sales totaled $8 million dollars. Additionally, multiple New Yorkers won prizes of $20,000 or more totaling $8.8 million.
