Taxpayers in NY are being warned of a scam regarding the recently mailed inflation refund checks.
The messages falsely claim that New Yorkers must submit accurate payment information to receive an inflation refund check, according to the Governor’s office. The Tax Department and the IRS will not call or text people with requests for personal information. State officials say eligible tax filters do not need to apply or do anything to get an inflation check. They’ll be received automatically by the end of November.
