A Good Apple Crop

Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 6:27 AM

The USDA is forecasting a good year for apple production in NY State and nationwide this year.

New York state ranks second in apple production behind Washington State according to the USDA.  Catharine Weber of the Agriculture Department’s Economic Research Service says the forecast for this year’s harvest is promising.  Weber said New York is looking at a possible 12% increase in volume and the best year since 2022.  Weber points out that while the top two apple varieties will stay the same the Honeycrisp apple is gaining in popularity.
