Technology is becoming a big part of the hunting experience in the state of New York says the DEC.
Several changes have been made by the DEC to streamline the use and reporting of hunting tags. Hunters can now use an online app for their license and tags as an alternative to paper options. As of now, hunters can still use a paper license if they choose. However, the HuntFishNY mobile app is an acceptable alternative as an electronic proof of licensure and possession tags according to the DEC. Users of e-tags will be able to immediately report their harvest with the mobile app whether they have cell service or not. Users also won’t need to attach a physical tag to the carcass while it remains in their possession. If e-tag users leave the carcass, such as with a taxidermist or processor, they would need to affix a tag that includes the hunter’s name, identification number, and reporting confirmation number.
