NY State didn't recover lost construction jobs following the government imposed shut down during the pandemic.
According to a report released by the State Comptroller’s office, the total number of construction jobs in NY are down nearly 40% from 2019. The New York Building Congress says non-residential construction spending remains below pre-pandemic levels as market demands have changed in the state. Nonresidential spending was estimated to have fallen by nearly $600 million in 2024 due to low demand as hybrid work policies allow people to work from home.
