NY State Police responded to a one-car crash at the border on West Service Road in Champlain.
The investigation revealed that a sedan traveling south toward the U.S. border at a high rate of speed failed to stop for inspection. Troopers say the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking a gate and then colliding with a concrete barrier. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers provided immediate assistance at the scene. The driver, identified as a 34-year-old Canadian from Laval, QC, was interviewed. After being searched, he was taken into custody by U.S. Customs Officers. When Troopers arrived and interviewed the man, they observed signs of impairment. He refused to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and complained of chest and arm pain, necessitating his transport to CVPH for medical evaluation. After being treated, he was taken into custody by the State Police and issued appearance tickets, which require him to return to the Town of Champlain Court at a later date in September.
