A statewide burn ban has been implemented in New York due to the risk of spring wildfires, which are largely caused by burning debris. Even with some areas still covered in snow, warming temperatures can quickly create wildfire conditions as dried vegetation is exposed to the sun. The burn ban, which runs through May 14, aims to reduce fire risks and protect communities, firefighters, and rangers, following 19 wildfires that have already burned over 500 acres this year.
