A multi-year salmon experiment on a local river is coming to an end.
This is the final year of a five-year experimental Atlantic Salmon pen-rearing project on the Saranac River. According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, the results of this project will allow for increased recreational fishing opportunities on Lake Champlain and the improvement of aquatic ecosystem health. Funding for this project is provided through the Sport Fish Restoration program, which gives money to fish and wildlife agencies for fishery projects.
