Essex County has reported the seventh lab confirmed rabies case in the county this time it was a grey fox.
Another case of rabies has been confirmed in Essex County. According to the county health department, A resident of Au Sable Forks found a grey fox they thought was injured and reached out to the DEC. The animal was initially brought to a rehabilitator who suggested the fox may be suffering from rabies. Last Friday a test for rabies came back positive. Even with the unusual circumstances, the Essex County Health Department reports they were able to determine there were no known human, pet or other wildlife exposures. Director of Health Planning and Promotion for ECHD, Jessica Darney Buehler said this is the seventh lab confirmed case of rabies in Essex County this year.
