Canadian wildfire smoke is again causing poor air quality locally according to the state health department.
The Adirondack region is among the areas that have had an Air Quality Health Advisory issued for today due to the impact of smoke from wildfires in Canada. In addition, there is the potential for visible smoke and hazy skies across the state and New Yorkers may see temporary spikes in smoke-related pollution. The pollutant of concern is: Fine Particulate Matter. Exposure can cause short-term health effects, such as irritation in the eyes, nose, throat and shortness of breath. Exposure to elevated levels of fine particulate matter can also worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease. The advisory started yesterday and will remain in effect until midnight.
