Adirondack Council Warns EPA Cuts Could Lead to Acid Rain and Health Risks

Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 2:56 AM

The Adirondack Council warns that cuts to the EPA could lead to acid rain, hazy skies, and more health issues. Former New York lawmaker and new EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced actions to roll back key environmental regulations, including those on pollution from coal plants, climate change, and electric vehicles. The Adirondack Council argues this could undo decades of progress in preventing acid rain and health problems from Midwest power plants. John Sheehan of the council emphasized that the Clean Air Act’s $65 billion cost has yielded up to $7 trillion in benefits, improving public health and reducing medical costs. The Trump administration argues that these actions will cut regulatory costs and boost American manufacturing.
