A recent CNN poll by SSRS shows that American political engagement can be divided into three groups. The high-attention group, making up 32% of respondents, actively seeks out the latest news. A middle group of 31% follows major developments but doesn't actively seek them out. The lower-attention group consists of 25% who pay attention only when necessary and 12% who tune out altogether. Highly engaged individuals are more likely to believe that democracy is under attack and see significant differences between political parties. Older Americans, those with college degrees, and wealthier households are more likely to seek out political news. (Cnn)
