72% of Americans over 55 have accumulated debt, a survey of 2,000 Gen Xers and baby boomers found. 50% are afraid they will never pay off what they owe. What kind of debt do aging adults have? The Talker Research survey commissioned by National Debt Relief found that 45% of respondents have credit card debt; 30% have mortgage debt; and 17% have credit card debt. "While this research shows many older adults are carrying significant debt into later life, it’s never too late for people to make meaningful progress towards their retirement goals and take control of their financial future," Dr. Kaylee Ranck of the American College of Financial Services said. 82% of respondents are worried about the future of Social Security.
