A survey from HarperCollins UK discovered that less than half of parents of kids up to 13 years old say reading aloud to their children is "fun" for them. Why is reading to kids important? "For young children, it's 'book-sharing' rather than 'reading' that best supports their development," Professor Carmel Houston-Price said. "Book-sharing also supports children's early language development." To help foster a love of reading, parents can make reading a part of their routine, limit use of digital media, and make sure there are age-appropriate books in the home. (Newsweek)
